Short Story

☆★ Pursue a Dream ★☆

One day, in the remote area, there was a girl. Her name is Azure and she lived with her parents who work as a farmer. It was Sunday and it was her turn to clean the classroom. She went to school by bicycle. “Dad, Mom, I will go to school right now. Pray me, Dad, Mom” she said to her parents and shake hand to them. “Sure honey, you have to study well” her father said. “Take care on the way, dear” her mother said. “Sure, I will do it, Mom, Dad. See you” she said. Azure rode her bicycle to the school. She passed the rice field and met some people who wanted to go to farm.
Kring…kring.. “Good morning, Sir” she said hello to the security. “Good morning, Azure from the fifth grade. You come early morning to school.” said security. “Yes sir because I have to clean the classroom first. Bye, Sir”.
Azure enter the room, put her bag on the table and then she toke a broom to sweep the floor. Not long after, her friend came. “Good morning, Azure. It is time for us to clean the classroom, right?” “Yes, it is, Angel. Let us do it together”. Azure and Angel were sweeping the floor. Thok..Thok.. Thook.. There was someone was knocking the door. Azure and Angel approached the door but there was no one. They frightened and continued for sweeping the floor. Thok..Thok.. Thook.. Someone was knocking the door for the second time. They approached the door again and “hey guys” with smile. “God heaven, I’m surprised Deb” said Angel” “Hi, Deb. Come on, let us sweep the floor. We have flag ceremony this morning” said Azure. Debby put her bag on the table, “Okay, guys and sorry I just kidding” Debby said. She toke a broom in the corner of the class. They swept the floor together. Five minutes later, they finished for cleaning the classroom and did flag ceremony.
Flag ceremony end, the students sat on the chair neatly. “Good morning, class” Mrs. Carol said. She stood in front of the class and she wrote down a word D-R-E-A-M. She said “Everyone has dream. So, please, write down on a paper about your dreams when you grow up.” Azure was interested in English. Azure wrote down her dreams on the paper; she wanted to study abroad and she wanted to be an English lecturer. Next day, she submitted the paper to the teacher. The teacher read her paper and laughing, “It is impossible, to study abroad and become an English lecturer need a lot of money, moreover your parents only were farmer. You must realize it”. Azure was sad and shy because her classmates were looking at her.
When the class ended, she went home. She was crying when she rode her bicycle. When she arrived at home, she told her parents about what happened in school today. She showed the paper to her mother. “Of course you can study abroad and become an English lecturer. Do not be sad or cry.” her mom said. “Your mom and I are going to try to collect more money, the important thing is hold on your dream, dear. Ignore what your teacher said to you” said Dad. Azure felt that she had spirit to reach her dreams because her parents support her.
Azure tried to keep her confident to reach her dreams. As the years went by, Azure felt doubt on herself because some people doubt on her-self too. Some people mocked at her, “you are girl, at last you will be in the kitchen as a wife. Do not dream too big, you will not get it”. She was sad, whenever she talked about her dreams, there were some people made her down. “You can’t study abroad because your parents are farmer, you are crazy. That is impossible” and until finally, she gave up.
Azure grew up and she threw away her dreams. In the second grade of senior high school, her English teacher was Mrs. Pristine. Mrs. Pristine was a discipline and uncompromising teacher. At first, Azure was afraid with Mrs. Pristine but she grew to respect her. Azure sure, Mrs. Pristine is a kind teacher. One day, Mrs. Pristine came to the class and gave the students an assignment. “What do you think? What are you going to do 7 years later?” The assignment was the same with her teacher when she was in the fifth grade, it was about dream. Azure thought about the assignment. Become a lecturer? No way. I need much money. Moreover, my parents are farmer-like my teacher said. Become a flight attendant? I am not pretty enough, they would not accept me. Become a model? I am not tall enough. Taylor? Owh I can’t do it. Become a waitress? Okay, I could do that, that felt safe. So, she wrote it down. Mrs. Pristine collected all of the papers and nothing more was said. English course ended.
A week later, Mrs. Pristine gave the papers back to the students. After finishing gave the papers, she stood in front of the class and asked this question. “Imagine these, if you have unlimited potency, unlimited financial, unlimited access to go to the best school that you want. Then, what are you going to do?” Azure remembered her old dreams and with excitement she wrote down all of her old dreams but she added her dreams; she wanted to help people around her because the education in her village was low and there were a lot of kids did not want to continue their study. Some of them decided to marry, some of them decided to work and some of them decided to be a vagrant. It made her sad. When the students stopped writing, Mrs. Pristine asked, “How many students wrote the same thing on both side of the papers?” Class was quiet and no one hand went up.
Mrs. Pristine was in front of Azure’s desk and said “I have a secret for you all”. The next thing that Mrs. Pristine said “You have unlimited potency, you have access to go to the best school that you want and you can arrange unlimited finances if you do something with your potency and effort. This is it! When you leave this school, if you do not go for your dreams, no one will do it for you. You can have what you want if you want it enough.” The despair and doubt that she felt was disappear because of what Mrs. Pristine statement. Azure felt happy and she felt like she got a new spirit in herself. She asked herself “Can I reach my dreams?” When she arrived at home, she asked her parents, “Can I make my dreams come true, dad, mom?” Her dad said “Of course you can, dear”. Her mom continued “If you believe in yourself that you can make your dreams come true, so, your dreams will come true. Go for your dreams” Her mom smiled.
Next day, when Mrs. Pristine came to the class, she brought some papers, a laptop, and a mini speaker. She put those things on the table and turned on her laptop. The students were curious because she did not know what Mrs. Pristine would do, but then, she gave the papers to each student. “It is a lyric of a song, let us listen the song and I hope you will get the meaning of the song”. Mrs. Pristine turned on the mini speaker and played the song. All of the students in the class sang together, included the teacher “Mrs. Pristine”.
Hero
By Mariah Carry
There’s a hero if you look inside your heart
You don’t have to be afraid of what you are
There’s an answer if you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know will melt away
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And then you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
rizkyonline.com
It’s a long road when you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand for you to hold
You can find love if you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt will disappear
Lord knows dreams are hard to follow
But don’t let anyone tear them away
Hold on, there will be tomorrow
In time you’ll find the way
The song ended. Mrs. Pristine said “All of you, my students, listen to me. I know sometimes people around you think that your dreams are impossible for you. They mock you and say the bad thing of you that make you down. Remember, something you have to do is-keep dreaming and believe you can reach your dreams because to achieve your dreams is believe it is possible for you. One of the lyrics of Mariah Carry song said that dreams are hard to follow, but do not let anyone tear them away. Hold on and try to make it comes true. So, my students-keep spirit to make your dreams come true. Even though, it is not easy, but you must go for it”. Mrs. Pristine smiled and left the classroom.
Class ended, but Azure was still in the class. She went to teacher office and went to Mrs. Pristine desk. Azure thanked Mrs. Pristine and told her about her dreams of becoming an English lecturer, studying abroad, and helping people around her. Mrs. Pristine smiled to her and put her hands on the table. “Then, you must do it!” she said. So, Azure did it. It did not happen overnight. It took more than 6 years.
A year later, Azure graduated from senior high school. She toke English major and she studied in college for her undergraduate for 4 years. She wanted to continue her study abroad but she needed more money. So, she decided to look for a scholarship. Got a scholarship was not easy but with her effort and struggle, she got a scholarship. She continued her study in America and finished her Master degree of English Education for 2 years. After finishing her Master degree in America, she came back to her country. Today, she is an English lecturer in a university. Besides, she helps children in her village by give them motivation and helps parents around her home to give more attention for education.
It was the power of positive words, spark of encouragement from a woman Azure respected, that gave that uncertain young girl the strength and faith to pursue her dreams. Dream are free, everyone should have dreams in their life. Like in Turbo movie, one of the actor said “There is no dream is too big and there is no dreamer is too small”. J

You Are What You Wear

You are what you wear are statement where someone look at or appraise the other person from their clothes. They think that someone personality can be seen from what they wear.
When someone thinks that you are what you wear, actually you are not what you wear and they will not get an accurate understanding of you based on your clothes. If you are wearing nice clothes, it does not mean that you are rich and it does not mean that you are a good person who has a good personality. It just means that you are wearing nice clothes. So, do not judge the book by its cover. It is mean that we should not judge a person from what they wear because what they wear could not exactly represent someone personality.

The Unforgettable Experience

The Surprise in My Birthday

Everybody must have an unforgettable experience, including me. The unforgettable experience happened when I was in the fifth grade of elementary school in Malang. I went to school with my friends on foot. The first lesson was natural science subject. The teacher who taught the lesson was Mr. Suko. It was a special day. At first, Mr. Suko asked me to imitate something. At the end of the lesson, I got a surprise from Mr. Suko and my classmate. I did not realize that day was my birthday.
Mr. Suko came to the class and sat on the chair. Mr. Suko asked me to come forward and I did it. When I was in front of the class, Mr. Suko said “Linda, do you know how the butterfly flies?” and I answered “Yes, I do sir”. And then Mr. Suko said “Imitate the butterfly flies, please”. In front of the class, I flied like a butterfly. I flied around my classmate of about a minute, and then Mr. Suko stopped my action. He asked me about the rainbow, “Linda, do you know the rainbow?” and I answered “Yes, I do sir. The rainbow is beautiful”. Mr Suko said, “You are right, so what will you do if you see the rainbow? Show us your expression”. I pretended see the rainbow, I pointed the rainbow and said “Wow, the rainbow is so beautiful. There are various colors”. After I had finished for acting, Mr. Suko and my classmate gave me applause. I smiled to my friends and I felt happy.
I still stayed in front of the class. Mr. Suko asked my friend who sat beside me to come forward, her name is Debby. She come forward and closed my eyes. I thought that Mr. Suko asked me to do something else, so I stand up in front of the class conveniently. Two minutes later, I heard my classmates left their chair and stood around me. I felt something that applied on my face, it had fragrance but I did not know what kind of the thing was. I thought that my face became a drawing book. Of about three minutes later, my friends finished for applying something on my face. When I opened my eyes, I touched my face and I knew that something was lip stick. Oh God, I can not believe it. I surprised because my teacher and my classmate sang a birthday song for me. After they had done for singing, my classmate gave me the gifts. It made me happy and it was touching. I had not had held the birthday party before. I was so happy because I had a teacher and classmate who were kind.J
